You seem like you got to a good start. You got me interested in the story, I read the first few sentences, and then there was nothing more there. You need to make it longer, plain and simple.

That was a very gentle way to let him know that it was too simple. Ergi, make the first paragraph a summary of the article, the second how it connects to what we are studying or at least to science and the third your opinion.
